Hike: GR-92 Sant Vicenç dels Horts to Baixador de Vallvidrera; 15.5 km
Sunday, February 24, 2019, 8:40 a.m., Meet in front of FGC ticket machines at Pl. Espanya
ASB Mediterranean Trail Hiking Series
February's hike is the twelfth in our series following the GR-92 Mediterranean Trail. Stretching from France to Valencia, the GR-92 hugs the coastline covering a distance of 583 km in total. We've started our series in the south heading north and we'll hike as many segments of this marvelous long distance trail as are accessible by train. So far we've hiked 205 km! This hike picks up where we left off in Sant Vicenç dels Horts last month and brings us 15.5 km northeast to Baixador de Vallvidrera.
Join us Sunday!
Rain or shine we’ll be meeting at 8:40 am in front of FGC ticket machines at Pl. Espanya where we’ll catch the train to Sant Vicenç dels Horts (S4). For the next few hikes on the Mediterranean Trail we'll be hiking in and out of residential areas as we make our way around the Barcelona metropolitan area through the beautiful parks that surround it.
From Sant Vicenç dels Horts our trail follows the Llobregat River passes through Molins de Rei and then ascends into Collserola Park. The trail follows farm and forest roads passing by traditional masias, the ruins of the 14th century Castell de Castellciuró and the restored Santa Creu d’Olorda where we'll lunch in the picnic area. After lunch we'll climb up the nearby Turó de can Pasqual before descending into Vallvidrera
Most of the hikes along the GR-92 have been very flat, but, like January's hike, this one has a bit of climbing with an overall increase in elevation of 540 meters. Though this hike is short, be sure you are ready to go the distance! Please read the full hike description and download the trail on Wikiloc so you can follow the trail on your phone/GPS device. And, as usual, you will need to bring a packed lunch as we will be eating along the trail.
