Hike: GR-92 Garraf to Gavà; 21 km
Sunday, December 30, 2018, 8:10 a.m., Meet in front of El Fornet, Carrer d'Aragó, 284
ASB Mediterranean Trail Hiking Series
December's hike is the tenth in our series following the GR-92 Mediterranean Trail. Stretching from France to Valencia, the GR-92 hugs the coastline covering a distance of 583 km in total. We've started our series in the south heading north and we'll hike as many segments of this marvelous long distance trail as are accessible by train. So far we've hiked 165.5 km! This hike picks up where we left off at Garraf and brings us 21 km northeast to Gavà.
Join us Sunday!
Rain or shine we’ll be meeting at 8:10 am in front of El Fornet, Carrer d'Aragó, 284 where we’ll catch the train from Passeig de Gràcia to Garraf (R2).
From the seaside town of Garraf our trail climbs the Sender del Mediterrani up into Garraf Park passing by the 19th cen. modernist building La Pleta and numerous cave mouths that open up to the Pla de Querol. We'll climb up to La Morella, the highest peak in Garaff Park (596 m) and walk along the Serra del Clos, then gradually down again, passing by the ruins of Castell d'Eramprunyà and stopping for lunch at the Ermita de Santa Maria de Bruguers (there MIGHT be a cafe open there, but bring something to eat in case it is closed for the season). After that, it's all downhill to Gavà.
Our earlier hikes in 2018 have been very flat, but this one offers us a bit of climbing! Be prepared for an overall increase in elevation of 700 meters, so be sure you are ready to go the distance! Please read the full hike description and download the trail on Wikiloc so you can follow the trail on your phone/GPS device. And, as usual, you will need to bring a packed lunch as we will be eating along the trail.
