Hike: El Salt de Mir i el Molí; 16 km
Sunday, October 15, 2017, 7:25 a.m., Meet in front of Cafe Zurich, Plaça de Catalunya, 1
Join us - we're excited to share with you this gem of a hike we discovered a couple of years ago!
Rain or shine we’ll be meeting at 7:25 a.m. at Plaça de Catalunya where we’ll catch the train to Sant Quirze de Besora. October's hike starts with a challenging climb that brings us along the Serra de la Cogullera with beautiful views of the valley below, followed by a densely forested descent into the Bac del Mir where we'll break for lunch near the Salt del Mir waterfall. This is a beautiful area for fall hiking and we're hoping to see some beautiful autumn colors along the way.
Lunch Note:
We have the rare opportunity on this hike to lunch in a lovely little rural restaurant - La Cabanya del Mir - where we can enjoy a hearty lunch of traditional Catalan country fare. However, you are welcome to bring your own lunch if you prefer not to eat in the restaurant. When registering for the hike, please indicate your choice. On Saturday afternoon, we will call ahead to make a reservation for those who plan to eat in the restaurant.

Hike Description
Leaving Sant Quirze de Besora, we pick up the GR3. Our trail is a rocky footpath that winds its way up behind the Bac del Serrat and continues up to the Serra de la Cogullera. We'll walk along the rocky ridge for a while, skirting the Puig del Juí and descend briefly to an open plain and the ruins of an abandoned masia before climbing back up to the highest point in our trail: the Collet de Bosquetell. Leaving the rocky terrain behind, we turn north and descend into the Bac del Mir along a steep and densely wooded forest trail. At the base of the valley we'll break for lunch at a cool & refreshing spot near the waterfall Salt del Mir.
With the hardest part over, the second half of our hike starts off with a gradual descent along forest roads winding around the Serrat dels Matxos and brings us to the Riera de la Foradada. Our trail follows the river's twists and turns, crossing over it, and the many streams that feed it, numerous times. Be prepared - your feet will get wet!
This is not a technically difficult hike, however there are some areas of steep climbing and descending that require a good level of fitness and endurance, so please read carefully the full hike details & description and make sure you are ready for it. Also, as mentioned above, there are numerous river crossings, so make sure you have the appropriate shoes!
Please take the time to download the trail on Wikiloc so you can follow the trail on your phone/GPS device.
