Alexandre Calvo

Having been born in Barcelona, Alex studied law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) and after half a year in Taiwan and some travel around Asia came back to the city to spend a year in the import-export business, another as research assistant to a Member of the European Parliament, followed by a career in banking (mainly in the legal and documentation areas).
As so many ASB members he finally decided to become his own boss and set up his legal practise, specialising in cases involving conflict of laws and counting many expatriates among his clients. He is an associate member of the American Bar Association, sits on the board of its International Family Law Section, and is involved in "Operation Stand-by", providing pro-bono advice on family law matters to JAG Officers under the supervision of the ABA Family Law Section's Military Commmitte.
At the same time, builiding on a long-held interest in military history, he embarked on a PhD in security and defense studies, which has led to his appointment as professor in International Law and International Politics at European University. He is also a second-lieutenant in the Spanish army reserve.
Father of a ten-year old boy, he counts among his hobbies reading, running, and learning Japanese and is thinking of having a go at Kendo.
Anything else you would like to know ... just ask him.
